Welcome to Intermediate Czech! I have decided to make this web page, one of only a few on the net as far as I know,
to accommodate those learning the beautiful Czech language and struggling to find a workable method to
figuring out all the crazy Czech 'systems', primarily dealing with those frustrating cases we all know about.
As you probably guessed, this site is aimed at those with a comfortable knowledge of Czech, such as those
currently living in the Czech Republic, or those studying up in anticipation of the big move. There are several
sites out there that give a very brief overview of pronunciation, numbers, basic grammar, etc., and expect you
to feel accomplished with this knowledge. However, it’s a good start, but I’ve chosen to omit most of the very basics
on this page. Oh if only it were so easy…
I am a native English speaker who has been studying Czech the past few years, and only now do I feel
able to offer my study notes with those looking for a decent way to sort through the mess. Of course, this is sort of an online reference for myself as well. Sure, you can find all of this information in many Czech language books, as I have through the several that I own, but I often
find that they present this information in a manner that is more difficult than need be. I’ve put the pieces
together in what I consider to be several easy to understand charts.
As you can see above, this page will present the following: declension tables of many types, pronouns and prepositions according to case, some vocabulary that I feel is useful for English speakers, and a bit of slang I learned from my time in the Czech Republic. Of course with every aspect of this site I am hoping for corrections, comments, additions, you name it. I’m only an intermediate speaker myself and am always looking for new information. Why not start a useful Czech learning community in hopes that more foreigners over there will learn and appreciate the language?
So take your time, go through the site, and see if it’s of any help to you. If there is enough interest in this site I would also love to add a section for schools/private tutors to post their services/information for those desiring more help. Also, to spice up the site a little bit I’ve included some random pictures of Prague. Feel free to send some of your own my way. So again, I hope you find this site useful for your studies, and any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks for coming!
